Statement by National Institute for Reproductive HealthAction Fund President Andrea Miller

“Senate Republicans’ attempt to rip fundamental health care from millions of Americans by burying Obamacare repeal in a provision of their destructive tax bill may have cleared another hurdle, but we still have time to stop this malicious attempt to dismantle access to healthcare in the United States for the people who need it most.

“As the bill makes its way back to the House of Representatives, the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund calls on advocates across the country to contact their member of Congress and ask them to take repeal of the individual mandate off the table.

“Like the slew of Obamacare repeal bills introduced throughout the summer, this new tax bill provision preys on underserved communities. Repealing the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual mandate would leave millions of women without coverage for birth control, maternity care, abortion care, or essential preventative care like cancer screenings and STD testing and treatment.

“For millions of U.S. residents, repealing the individual mandate would mean life or death. Congress must take this heartless attempt to push healthcare out of reach for of women who rely on it off the table. The National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund will continue to arm states and cities across the country with the tools they need to pass legislation that safeguards access to abortion and contraception, regardless of what happens in Washington, D.C.”
