Leading Repro Group Outlines Candidate Positions on Reproductive Freedom
NEW YORK – The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) Action Fund released its 2021 New York City Democratic Primary Voter Guide today, giving New York City voters the information to understand which candidates have a record of supporting the protection and expansion of reproductive freedom at the local level. The voter guide outlines the list of New York City candidates running for office in 2021 primaries and notes their stances on reproductive freedom, including abortion access, and whether NIRH Action Fund PAC has officially endorsed them.
“Many progressive candidates who understand and support reproductive freedom are running for office in New York City, and the NIRH Action Fund PAC is excited to make so many endorsements – especially during such a critical time,” said Andrea Miller, President of NIRH Action Fund & Action Fund PAC. “With a number of states attacking reproductive freedom – including access to abortion – and a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade pending at the Supreme Court, and it is absolutely critical that New York City remain a bastion for access to abortion.
“Cities have enormous opportunity and responsibility to use their levers of power to protect and expand access to care, which is one reason NIRH Action Fund has long worked at the local and state levels. The people of New York City have a real opportunity to elect a number of progressive candidates, including in the mayoral race, who can truly lead New York City and fight for everyone’s right to control their body, their life, and their future,” Miller said.
Notably, the NIRH Action Fund PAC is co-endorsing Kathryn Garcia and Maya Wiley for mayor and Brad Lander for Comptroller. This year marks New York City’s first primary election with Ranked Choice Voting, where voters can rank up to five candidates per office.
