NIRH Action Fund Statement on Virginia right to contraception act veto

“Governor Youngkin’s failure to act to protect contraception access for Virginians is a direct attack on reproductive health and bodily autonomy. By vetoing the Right to Contraception Act, he has not only undermined personal health care decision making, but has left Virginians vulnerable to attacks on contraception access that could jeopardize their safety and ability to plan for their futures,” said Christian LoBue, NIRH Action Fund President.

“The Right to Contraception Act is common sense legislation. Contraception is safe and critical health care used by 99% of sexually active women in the United States. It plays a significant role in both reducing instances of unplanned pregnancies and improving maternal and infant health outcomes. Contraception access supports our ability to plan for our education, careers, and families. But for the second year in a row, Governor Youngkin has shown a dangerous disregard for the health and safety of the people of Virginia, and opened the door for further erosion of their reproductive freedom.

At NIRH Action Fund, we know every election has powerful potential to impact our most fundamental freedoms. This November, Virginians will have the opportunity to vote their values and elect new state leadership that will support – and defend – their health and rights.”
