Election of Mayer and Sepúlveda Moves New York State Senate Closer to a Pro-Choice Majority; Offers Promising Opportunity for Progressive Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice Agenda in the New York State Senate & Assembly
NEW YORK, NY (April 24, 2018) — The National Institute for Reproductive Health (NIRH) Action Fund PAC proudly congratulates its endorsed pro-choice candidates – Shelley Mayer and Luis Sepulveda in the State Senate, and Harvey Epstein and Steve Stern in the State Assembly – for their stunning victories in today’s special elections. The election of Mayer and Sepúlveda to the State Senate brings New York one step closer to a pro-choice majority capable of protecting reproductive health, rights and justice from continued federal assault.
“In electing four exemplary, pro-choice candidates, New Yorkers sent a message that it’s time for the legislature to get serious about standing up against the federal assault on women, people of color, and LGBTQ people,” said Andrea Miller, President of NIRH Action Fund PAC. “We need leaders like Senators-elect Mayer and Sepúlveda to move the Senate to finally advance reproductive health, rights, and justice for New Yorkers.
