Federal Funding Freeze Statement

National Institute for Reproductive Health & NIRH AF President Christian LoBue released the following statement in response to the Trump administration’s federal funding freeze that endangers access to reproductive health care and other essential programs nationwide:

“Today’s funding freeze is a critical first step in the White House’s cruel plan to hobble states’ ability to pay for abortion and other reproductive health care. In the short-term, this unconstitutional power grab is a critical threat to reproductive and pregnancy-related health care, including the many federally funded programs that provide support to pregnant people, children, and families. In the long-term, this sets the stage for decimating or even ending Medicaid funding for states that provide abortion coverage – along with so many other harms. This reckless action undermines health equity and access, particularly for communities most impacted by systemic barriers. It is a calculated effort to undermine the public’s reliance on and trust in reproductive health programs and restrict access to essential care for those who rely on these programs the most. We urge immediate action to permanently reverse this pause, ensure that our tax dollars are used to build a future where all of us – not just the wealthy few – can thrive.”
